Budgets, limits and the risk of loss

Setting limits does not turn gambling into an investment.

Betanthropic Information only · 18+

Separate essential expenses from entertainment

Do not gamble money needed for housing, bills, debts or essential savings. Any gambling budget must be an amount you can afford to lose completely, not a target to grow. Even small stakes can become significant when repeated frequently.

Set limits before a session

Set an amount and a time limit before starting. Do not increase them during a session to recover a loss. Where available, use account limit tools: they do not replace personal control, but can make a boundary more concrete.

Why doubling does not solve losses

With hypothetical stakes of €5, €10, €20, €40 and €80, five consecutive losses total €155. Stakes rise rapidly, and account limits or available funds can interrupt any progression.

Recognise a problem

Hiding spending, borrowing to gamble, neglecting responsibilities or chasing losses are reasons to stop and seek support. Do not wait for a favourable result before asking for help.

Support and self-exclusion

Italy’s Istituto Superiore di Sanità lists 800 558 822 for gambling-related problems. Consult the official source for opening hours and access details. The Responsible gambling page also provides institutional references and self-exclusion guidance.
