Which market are you reading?
A win bet concerns the first finisher. A place market covers additional positions, but the number of paid places and the exact terms must be checked in the offer details.
Distinctions to check
Each-way bets may divide the stake between win and place components. The total outlay can therefore be twice the amount shown for each component. Withdrawals and changes to the field may affect the conditions.
An example to explain the concept
A €5 stake on each of the two components of an each-way bet means a total outlay of €10. Always check the actual total before confirming.
Terms and settlement
Compare the number of places, place terms, non-runners and possible deductions together. The bookmaker’s rules specify how an official result applies to the market. Later result corrections may be subject to time limits: do not infer settlement solely from a result published elsewhere.
Compare like with like
Keep the event, period of play, selection and line identical. Record the observation time as well: prices viewed at different times are not a simultaneous comparison. Higher odds do not automatically compensate for different rules or conditions.
From the guide to the sources
For schedules and formats, consult the official source for the sport or event. For settlement, read the rules of the particular market. The examples on this page are hypothetical, not live results.
