Which market are you reading?
Match winner, set winner, game handicap and total games are different markets. Before comparing prices, check the match format and treatment of tie-breaks.
Distinctions to check
Retirements require particular attention: operators or markets may apply voiding, minimum-play requirements or other settlement rules. A published sporting result does not establish how every bet will be settled.
An example to explain the concept
Two identical match-winner prices can have different financial outcomes if a player retires and the market rules differ. Comparing only the number overlooks this distinction.
Terms and settlement
Check retirements, walkovers, surface changes and match tie-break treatment. The bookmaker’s rules specify how an official result applies to the market. Later result corrections may be subject to time limits: do not infer settlement solely from a result published elsewhere.
Compare like with like
Keep the event, period of play, selection and line identical. Record the observation time as well: prices viewed at different times are not a simultaneous comparison. Higher odds do not automatically compensate for different rules or conditions.
From the guide to the sources
For schedules and formats, consult the official source for the sport or event. For settlement, read the rules of the particular market. The examples on this page are hypothetical, not live results.
